REPAIR GUIDE
UPDATED SEPT 2024
Required Tools
- #2 Phillips screwdriver
Procedure
Note: Remove the Switchback Seat before starting to make things easier.
/01: Remove rear wheels and remove the 2 screws inside of the hub.
/02: Remove the back of the housing by pulling on the brake pedal. Note: The internal parts in here are spring loaded and it is possible they all come out simultaneously.
/03: Clean parts if there's dirt or other particles.
/04: Re-assemble by inserting the two red parts as shown. Make sure that the pin part has the springs installed, as it is possible they remain in the housing.
/05: Add the notched ring, the wedges should be facing in so that they engage the red parts.
/06: Add metal ring, make sure to align the small ears with the smaller of 2 set of notches on the ring. Also be mindful of the circled hole, this is where the spring is hooked in at a later step.
/07: On the brake pedal part, add the spring by looping into the groove.
/08: Re-assemble the brake pedal part into the housing by positioning the brake pedal to almost touch the frame leg. Then insert the flat end of the spring into the hole mentioned in step 6. This part can be difficult, it can help to push the spring into the hole using a screw driver or other tool. This should also make the assembly come into light tension.
/09: Once the spring is in the hole, rotate slightly to position the pedal in its normal position (below the window), and align the holes on the ring with the screw holes.
/10: While keeping the assembly clamped together, slide the cover all the way through the assembly.
/11: Add the two screws on the inside of the hub, making sure not too overtighten, as that may cause the brake to "stick" or otherwise not spring back to its normal position.
